The British team United Visual Artists (UVA) are known for their installations and performances, often using light. Many of their works offer viewers not only to admire the creative ideas of the authors, but also to participate in their implementation. One such project is the installation Volume at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
The installation consists of 46 sound and light columns arranged in the form of a symbolic forest. “A sculpture of light and sound” - this is how its creators characterize Volume. The main feature of the installation is that it interacts with the viewer, “responding” to his movements with a series of audiovisual impressions.
As conceived by the authors, the viewer should not remain an outside observer: he can walk among the columns, touch them and see how "his actions play with the energy fields inside the space." Each column is equipped with its own microphone, so the installation can be studied by one person or a group of people - in any case, everyone will have different impressions.
The luminous interactive installation was available to the public for three months and during this time it completely transformed the courtyard of the museum - John Madejski Garden. According to members of the United Visual Artists team, Volume is one of their favorite works to date.
United Visual Artists was formed in 2003 with the goal of creating innovative visual shows for touring bands. Currently, the company's activities include various architectural and interactive installations, as well as live performances.
