Janine Antoni is a contemporary artist, concept photographer, sculptor and art performance artist whose work primarily focuses on the creative process itself. Jeanine Anthony is confident that we live in a time when all kinds of artistic language are possible, and minimalism in art is one such language. She engraves with teeth, paints with eyelashes and hair, creates various models and figures with her own body. Performance is not the goal of her work, the most important thing for an artist is the process of work, the meaning of something created when a connection with an object is established. She always tries to involve the viewer in the process of creating her sculptures, installations or paintings.
Jeanine Anthony's work blurs the distinction between performance and sculpture. Turning such everyday human activities as the process of eating, bathing and sleeping into art, the artist uses her entire body, or some of its parts, such as mouth, hair, eyelashes, as tools for creating installations and painting paintings. Using her hair as a brush to apply paint to the canvas, Janine paints pictures while kneeling on the floor. She explores her body, the themes of power and femininity, applying the style of Abstract Expressionism.
Using her mouth and chewing activity, the artist “gnawed” two huge chocolate sculptures, and also “licked” the chocolate statues, reshaping their original forms.
Concept photographer, artist and sculptor Jeanine Anthony is best known for staging one of the most unconventional and provocative kissing in art history. She created a photographic canvas depicting the process of touching the artist's tongue to the pupil of a man in order, according to Janine, "to learn the taste of his sight."
Jeanine Anthony's artistic performance sometimes seems just crazy: she sleeps in the hall to record the rhythm of her heart in a dream, stands upside down on a jug, lies in the bathroom, from which cows drink water, touching her body.
Jeanine Anthony was born in the Bahamas in 1964. She studied at Sarah Lawrence College in New York and received her master's degree from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1989. The artist's main shows are held at the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Modern Art in Dublin.
