Sarah Moli Newton Applebaum lives and works in the bustling metropolis of San Francisco, creates knitted sculptural installations that are a set of bright fabrics, rugs, napkins and blankets. These vibrant colorful forms absorb and transform the space into some kind of mysterious fairytale geometric and abstract world that can only be found in dreams.

Sarah Moly Newton Applebaum is crazy about handmade knits. All too often, she goes to a second-hand store and just shovels up all those crochet and knitting clothes and scarves, each for 99 cents. To her, they seem so beautiful and so perfect, because just think how many women have spent their energy and time creating small wicker and knitted works of art. She buys a wide variety of items, from blankets to pillows, napkins and hats, and makes them part of her colorful and energetic installations.

In fact, while Sarah Applebaum is delighted with handicrafts, because she herself does not know how to knit at all, she loves these crazy combinations of bright colors most of all. And that is exactly what caught her attention in the first place. Color is what we see around us and what we use to understand the world around us. Color is associated with our feelings and emotions. The artist works with color, creating mysterious landscapes. Her creative process is intuitive and based on the study of the relationship between material and color.
