As soon as he picks up a couple of stones of an interesting shape next to it, and now the sources for another original work have been found, refuting the common misconception: water does not flow under a lying stone.

In 1982, Ito received his diploma from the National University of Fine Arts in Tokyo. At first, his interests as a sculptor were associated with metal. Attention to the stone appeared a little later, although it was probably predetermined - Ito's father worked as a bricklayer. The new interest led to the emergence of the most striking works in the career of the Japanese master.

Ito does not hide the fact that he creates his extravagant creations from the simplest materials at hand - first of all, stones from the nearby river. However, the apparent "simplicity" is unlikely to allow anyone to achieve the same results. Ito always manages to find a new approach to primitive material; in addition, the sculptor has an impeccable sense of humor.

In his stone sculptures, Ito does not seek to specifically emphasize the stubbornness of his "raw materials", as, for example, the American Bridget Polk … His little stone men do not look too monumental, as similar in theory. BMW stone car, about which Kulturologia.ru recently wrote. Ito, on the other hand, challenges the stereotype of stone as a rough and heavy material. In his hands, he finds lightness and grace - to put it simply, he comes to life.
