They say that the walls have ears, so why not a glimmer of life in the boulders, not to dwell in an immortal soul, which only a select few can see? Probably this "chosen one" is a Japanese sculptor Hirotoshi Itoh, who not only sees for himself what the inner world of the most ordinary stone is rich in, but also bares his soul for those who are not able to do it on their own. Someone would call the sculptures of Hirotoshi Ito cold and soulless - such is the reputation of stones. But the master himself, on the contrary, considers them very kind and sensual, capable of causing a smile and giving a little positive to everyone who will consider them. He who seeks will always find, the sculptor speaks with oriental wisdom, so there is no need to "bury" too deeply and look for a hidden meaning in these works. Just enjoy and smile.
So, in the skilled hands of the master, stones turn into food and clothing, wallets and bags, share the riches stored inside, like a cornucopia, or even smile broadly at the audience, exposing large yellow teeth. Hirotoshi Ito says that he is subject to all kinds of stones, but most of all he loves to look inside the smooth, round river pebbles, which he gets from the rivulet that flows in his hometown of Matsumoto on the island of Honshu. And who knows, perhaps it is this territorial connection that helps the stones smile, and the master - to create his masterpieces.
And it all began back in 1982, when Hirotoshi Ito graduated from the University of Fine Arts in Tokyo and specialized in metal sculptures. It was only later that stones became his passion, and amazing sculptures made of stones became his vocation. And you can always get acquainted with the work of the author on his website.

The art of shifting stones. Sculptures by Chris Booth from pebbles and boulders
Few people take the ancient adage about "time to collect stones" literally. But not the Australian sculptor Chris Booth. He knows how to collect stones better than anyone else, and after collecting enough, he constructs stunning sculptures and installations from them, vaguely reminiscent of the balancing stones in the land art of Michael Grab. But only distantly, because the sculptures of Chris Booth are not based on balancing stones, he builds from smooth river stones
