“Fundamental in our work is to combine the toys we used to play with and the scenic landscapes we imagined as children. We like to combine pieces of wood or screws left behind in factories with daily necessities or toys. Combining these two different types of materials and creating art objects from them, we noticed an interesting thing: some objects lose their original scale and begin to seem huge; others find amusing differences in the immediate neighborhood of dissimilar objects. These combinations become the models that we would like to see in real scale,”- says duo Paramodel about their experiments.

In "tommy sushi" Paramodel combined toy trucks called "tomica" and a sushi model. Tomica is a famous toy car series manufactured by Tomy in Japan. The sushi in the Japanese duo's art objects are not toys, but they are not real food either. They are made of plastic and are typically used by restaurants to showcase their meals. Both the truck and the sushi are designed in detail like typical Japanese foods. In addition to the tommy sushi series, there were also tommi ca sculptures, the only difference being that the trucks carry traditional Chinese food here.

Although not real food is used in Paramodel's work, the idea has been taken into account by the owners of some restaurants, where customers are served dishes exactly as our authors came up with: already edible dishes are loaded onto toy platforms.

Paramodel is a Japanese duo formed in 2001 by Yasuhiko Hayashi and Yusuke Nakano. The name of the creative union is a kind of fusion of the words "Paradise", "Paradox", and "Model"; in addition, this word is consonant with the Japanese "puramodel", which means "plastic toy dioramas." The duo's artistic legacy includes both massive installations and miniature sculptures, as well as videos, drawings and photographs.
