Kirie Is a special technique for cutting filigree patterns out of paper. Self-taught Japanese artist Akira Nagaya he devoted most of his life to this art. Looking at his work, one might think that these drawings were made using a laser, but not by human hands.
About 30 years ago, as an aspiring seller in a sushi store, he had to master the technique of creating decorations for ready-made sasabaran dishes by carving patterns from bamboo leaves. Arriving home, Akira Nagaya tried to repeat what he saw using paper and a knife. He liked this occupation so much that the artist seriously took up this unique and difficult to repeat art.
At the age of 47, Akira Nagaya opened his own restaurant, where, for the sake of pleasure, he shows visitors his kirie. One of the local newspapers made a report about him, after which the first solo exhibition of his work took place in the gallery. This is how Akira Nagaya became a recognized kirie master in Japan.
Iranian artist Omid Asadi also deals with complex the art of carving patterns … Only he does it not on paper, but on dry leaves.
