The audience jokes that the concept of "Russian woman" has long gone beyond the borders of nationality and turned into a kind of high idea.
The real name of the singer is Manizha Dalerovna Khamraeva, she was born in 1991 in Dushanbe. It cannot be said that this is a "girl from the people", because in the Manizhi family there are already several generations of bright and creative personalities. Grandfather Taji Usman is a famous writer and journalist; in the north of Tajikistan there is a monument dedicated to him. Great-grandmother was remembered in history as an ardent fighter for the rights of oppressed women of the East, she was one of the first in her country to dare to take off her veil.
In 1994, the Civil War broke out in Tajikistan. The Manizhi family found themselves in a difficult situation. A shell hit their house, and the Khamraevs, along with other refugees, were forced to seek help in Russia. In Moscow, Manizha started attending a music school, participated in contests and festivals: Rainbow Stars in Jurmala, Ray of Hope from the Mir TRK, Kaunas Talent and others. At the age of 15, the girl began performing under the pseudonym Ru. Kola and recorded her first songs, a video with Semyon Slepakov was shot for the song "I Neglect".
After school, Manizha entered the Russian State University for the Humanities at the Faculty of Psychology, but music remained her first and main love. The singer lived in London for several years. Producer Michael Spencer, who once "lit" such stars as Kylie Minogue, Newton Faulkner and Emily Sande, predicted a great future for her, but the girl showed firmness of character and when the terms of the contract did not suit her, Manizha returned to Moscow.
In Russia, the singer managed to "blow up" the Internet, proving that social networks are a real opportunity for a musician to express themselves. Manija started blogging on Instagram, posting 15-second videos with covers of songs by Elvis Presley and other famous artists. The project was so successful that in December 2016 the singer released her debut Instagram album “Manuscript”. It was the first serious project to be released under the name Manizha.
Today the singer manages to combine her creative career with social activities, being an example of a real modern "Komsomol member, sportswoman, etc." In 2019, Manija began work on her own application Silsila (translated from Persian - "thread"), which is designed to help women suffering from domestic violence. It allows you to quickly call for help in an emergency using the panic button and offers a list of the nearest crisis centers and shelters.
In addition, Manizha launched the Beauty Trauma flash mob. The fact that the media impose on us the ideals of appearance, and society rigidly demands to comply with them, has long been a well-known problem. At one of the concerts, Manizha took off her stage makeup and showed the whole world her "real face", urging her fans to join this action. In 2020, Manizha became a goodwill ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency and was included in the Forbes rating of 30 promising Russians under the age of 30 in the Music category.
So, during the voting on the festive show on Channel One, the song "Russian Woman" gained 39.7%. This means that in May Manizha will represent Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam. The organizers said that the competition will take place offline, but perhaps without spectators. Singers from more than forty countries will take part in it.
The critical part of the public believes that this year our country decided to rely not on vocals, but on modern social trends, which the young singer fully complies with, but in her work, as you know, how many people - so many opinions, so it remains to wish Manija good luck and believe in her victory.
