And every evening, at the appointed hour (Or is it just me dreaming?), A girl's camp, captured by silks, In a foggy window moves.
And slowly, passing between the drunken, Always without companions, alone, Breathing spirits and mists, She sits at the window."
It is these lines from Alexander Blok's poem "The Stranger" that come to mind when examining the paintings of the artist Jason Thielke, who depicts lonely, mysterious and unfamiliar women.
Jason Thielke's art focuses on urban landscapes and their inhabitants. The artist's works are linear, layered, dynamic in nature. To create them, he uses both traditional and modern techniques, very reminiscent of modern architectural design. The process of drawing, composing and rendering a picture is a mirror image of the planning, decomposition and reconstruction stages used in architecture. It is the architectural style in the artist's works that is used to interpret human forms. Jason Thielke's paintings are created using laser engraving on wood and metal. Floating, curving lines help to outline the beauty of the created feminine image.
Jason Thielke holds a BA in Fine Arts from Northern Illinois University School of Art. Individual exhibitions of his work have been held in Denver, Portland and Seattle.
