Whitewashed curls, crimson blush and bright scarlet lips, thickly lined eyes with "arrows" and lilac-blue shadows - this is not at all a portrait of a cheap prostitute. This is the image of the main character of the popular series pin-up style postersthat made the contemporary British artist Syd Brak famous and wealthy. And let the girl cry in the machine in the early 80s, the artist will certainly take advantage of her sad story in order to paint a glamorous and sad picture about it. Sid Braque began his career as an artist in South Africa, where he graduated from the Art School of Johannesburg, after which he moved into advertising. After working as an art director and creative director for various agencies, the artist found that he was still more attracted to painting, and with this in mind, he emigrated to the UK in 1978, where he began to develop his artistic talent.
Sid Brack rose to prominence in 1982 when his retro poster, Long Distance Kiss, was voted one of the best, along with another Hollywood Diner poster. These works were done with an airbrush, but then Sid Braque began to experiment with oil paints, and later - to combine painting and computer graphics. This is how his last works were created, perhaps less popular, but still retro-glamorous, sometimes filled with languid longing and tearful sadness, and at times - bright, defiant and daring.
At one time, Sid Brack painted for such celebrities as Coca-Cola and Levi's, Jaguar and Mercedes, Nike and Johnson & Johnson, Colgate and Pringles, as well as numerous equally famous brands.
