Sculptures made of wood are not necessarily rough ancient idols, small netsuke and gloomy tree stumps in kindergartens. It is not always necessary to destroy a living plant in order to give it a new unusual shape - this premise lies at the heart of an interesting hobby called Tree shaping, or arborsculpture - or, roughly translated into Russian, tree modeling.
In fact, this hobby is far from being young and green. It is very similar to traditional, long-standing types of tree care - such as the same bonsai. But the special feature of Tree shaping is that the green crown - the seemingly most pleasing part of the tree for the eye - fades into the background. But the trunk becomes the object of intricate manipulations.
The "architects" of living wood sculptures begin by choosing a suitable, moderately flexible and plastic tree. And then special tools are used, with the help of which the trunk is turned, bent, split, spliced again. The resulting design can be as complex as a wicker chair. Although not everyone is chasing an abundance of interweaving: perhaps the most popular themes in Tree shaping are simple "pacific" and "little man".
The main challenge when working on living wood sculpture is that it requires some truly extraordinary patience. They say that to get an English lawn, you need to care for it for 400 years. Of course, fast-growing trees are specially selected for modeling, but they will also make you tinker with yourself for more than one year, so this kind of leisure would be very suitable for some extremely long-living inhabitants of the forest - for example, Tolkien's elves.
For several hundred years now, similar living sculptures (or, more correctly, structures?) Have appeared. The golden hands of natural-born gardeners, imagination and angelic patience - this is what will help create a masterpiece that will last for more than one generation. This is certainly better than writing on the trunk with a knife "Masha + Vova = …".

The tree of hope: a Christmas tree with 7 thousand paper cranes
Every December, hundreds of paper cranes flock to San Francisco to decorate the world's most hopeful tree. The project, which started 5 years ago, merged two traditions - western and eastern, because cranes make nests on the Christmas tree. Origami figurines perform not only a decorative function - good wishes are written on each of them. Paper birds for the Christmas tree are signed and celebrities. Among people who believe that the crane is better on the spruce, h
Fauna in a tree trunk. Wood sculptures by Randall D Boni
Wood is a wonderful natural material in which the ideas of many artists are realized. From wood, you can create a whole house and the entire home interior, from furniture to kitchen utensils, wood can give life to beautiful proud horses, from wood the hands of the master can make a real bus, which is in no way inferior to the iron brother. Sculptor and artist Randall D Boni uses wood not only as a creative material, but also as a frame
