What are we used to see traditional paintings in terms of their form? Most often these are, of course, rectangles. Squares are somewhat less common, and round or oval pieces are quite rare. “Boring”, - decided the artist Resa Blatman and set about creating paintings with intricately carved edges, because modern painting is not only content, but also form.

A distinctive feature of Reza Blotman's works is their edges with bizarre curls, which are both a frame and a continuation of the picture. The process of creating such a piece is quite long. Before proceeding directly to drawing, the author spends three to four months at the computer, developing the design of the edges. After that, Reza cuts out the required shape using a laser and only then proceeds to create the drawing itself. “Designing, preparing and painting each painting is an incredibly time-consuming process,” the artist admits.

Reza Blotman created the first painting in this style in 2008. Both she and the audience liked the result, so the artist continued her experiments. “My compositions have a sense of the Baroque, Romantic and Victorian decorative arts, as well as the influence of botanical imagery: I create a visual triumph of fruits, plants, wildlife and patterns. I take these objects out of their context and place them in a fantastic landscape,”says the author.
