Kings, as is known, everyone can … Their power does not extend, if you believe the old song, only to marital happiness - but then move into the future for 400 years and look at your own portrait in a museum kings are quite capable. How? With the help of an art and flash mob group Improv Everywhere.
Back in 2009, the restless guys from Improv Everywhere, about the inventions of which we have already written more than once, announced in the mailing list of their site that they are looking for "talents" - that is, moderately insane people who can help with the organization of funny eccentricities. Then a guy named Elliot, whose talent consisted in … portrait resemblance to King Philip IV of Spain … This august person was once immortalized with a brilliant brush Diego Velazquez, and for some time now the classic portrait of King Philip hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Immediately, a natural thought was born: one king in the portrait, the other in front of the portrait - isn't that wonderful? But the painting was handed over for restoration until this spring.
And now two weeks ago, March, 6, Elliot (The False King), Charlie Todd (Special Agent for Improv Everywhere), and a support group enter the museum. With a majestic step, Elliot moves towards "his" portrait and turns to the visitors, solemnly dropping words of greeting. He is dressed the same as in the portrait - a black dress, a heavy gold chain … "Long live the king?!" - written on the surprised faces of visitors. Meanwhile, Todd very plausibly convinces everyone that in front of them there really is the same king; the crowd begs for an autograph from His Majesty, and Elliot does not leave the image for a minute.
In the meantime, arrived in time security … A funny trial takes place, during which "King Philip" is accused by the guards of petty hooliganism, but is justified: "Isn't the king allowed to look at his own portrait ?!" … The guards suspected something was wrong. One asked: "But you are kind of too young to be King Philip ?!"and stared at Elliot suspiciously. "I'm actually only 400 years old" - came the answer, and everyone laughed with relief: yes, this really a joke.
What is the point of this promotion? The desire to bring art closer to the audience, kings to people, history to modernity, or just love to practical jokes? A little bit of everything. Howbeit, Improv Everywhere boldly writes "Mission accomplished" … AND - long live the king!

Vera Maretskaya: “Gentlemen! There is no one to live with! There is no one to live with, gentlemen! "
She was so talented that she could play any role. And, most importantly, in each role she was natural and harmonious. Cheerful, cheerful, funny - that was exactly what Vera Maretskaya was in the eyes of the audience and colleagues. In the theater, she was called the Mistress. And few people knew how many trials fell to her lot, how tragic the fate of her family was, how difficult her own life was.
