A sane person will never buy buttons in kilograms, by weight, unless, of course, they are going to marinate them with tomatoes. But a designer and an artist is easy. This is what Ran Hwang from Seoul usually does when he prepares another stunning installation.
Each such installation requires incredible patience, perseverance and a dizzying number of buttons of the same color and size, and also the same number of sewing pins. The craftswoman does not use wire, glue, or tape, only buttons and pins, which, in fact, hold the buttons in the right position and at the right distance from each other.
Ran Hwang says that during the time she has been creating such installations, she has become calm and patient, like a monk practicing Zen. It's no joke, not to leave the wall for several hours, stringing buttons on pins and methodically sticking them into the wall! But the result is worth it, because a huge number of people are going to the exhibitions of this artist, admiring her stoicism and talent.
At one time, Ran Hwang graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York, and her exhibitions are held in many major cities, including Paris, Seoul and Hong Kong.
