Probably in a past life sculptor Patrick Dougherty from North Carolina was a bird. Moreover, be sure to the one that builds its own nests - such large, sturdy bird houses. Because in this real life, he devoted himself to creating quite unusual installations, the likes of which I had never seen before. From hundreds of thousands of thin sticks and twigs, Patrick builds … not nests, no. And large-scale sculptures, real decorations for parks, gardens, squares and even premises.
Someone might argue that these are works of art, because it looks more like a kind of landscape design, since we are talking about gardens and parks. And he will be right, because the art called "stickwork" started from there.
At first, Patrick Dougherty experimented with seedlings of climbing bushes and trees as "building materials" for future structures, and as a result of many years of practice and experimentation led to the fact that the sculptures of this author flaunt in the best gardens of royal residences, famous museums, arboretums and on the private plots of wealthy people, stars of show business, sports and politics.
To create unusual sculpture installations from twigs, Patrick Dougherty orders a truckload of "consumables", personally testing its quality and flexibility. Often the sculpture is "superimposed" on the frame, but sometimes the creative "nest" is simply made from twigs, especially if you need to make something small, to decorate an interior or a private collection. To date, Patrick Dougherty has created more than two hundred large-scale sculptures around the world and a lot of small installations, which can be seen on the author's website.

According to the Pritzker Prize laureate, the world famous Japanese architect Shigeru Bana, the only way for an architect not to succumb to the banal influence of fashion is to look for new approaches to the design of structures and … new materials.
