Polyethylene pipes for water distribution have become durable and flexible parts of conceptual furniture for public use. French designer Sebastian Wierinck from OnSite Studio considers such expressive experiments to be a necessary component of modern design, because it is they that give creative freedom that opens up new horizons in the design and production of a spatial-object environment.
These functional installations have the ability to constantly transform, depending on the circumstances and functional purpose. However, the main task of the structures is to implement the conceptual idea of the artist who created them.
The main thing here is the metaphorical aspect of pipes, which are not just objects or surfaces, but attract the author with their semantic content, symbolizing a drift or flow - energetic, electrical, light or informational.
It is the semantic aspect that is the most interesting part of the project. Is it possible to actually set the form of information? Furniture is often a kind of "prosthesis" for our bodies, expanding their capabilities. The philosophical goal of the project is to combine the concept of "furniture-prosthesis" with the concept of a digital interface of information transmitted to us in space.
You can get acquainted with the work of the author of the project by visiting the official website of his design studio, whose office is located in Marseille:
