Photo artist Tom Chambers loves everything that makes you look at reality from a different angle. Influenced by Mexican religious drawings, his art photographs are assembled piecemeal from photographs taken in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The author of creative collages does not count on absolute believability, but he is sure that the viewer will perfectly understand what's what.
Photo artist Tom Chambers was born and spent his childhood on a farm in Pennsylvania, studied graphic design in Florida and has always had an interest in photography. For over 10 years, Tom Chambers has worked as a graphic designer in Virginia, packaging and layout magazines. But 13 years ago he decided to devote himself to art photography and the art of collage.
The first creative works were the usual mockery of summer photographs and attempts to make something unusual out of them at work noon. However, artistic experiments did not end there, and over time, Tom Chambers began to call himself a photographic illustrator - a person who draws pieces of photographed objects. Gradually recognition came, exhibitions began, awards appeared.
A number of Tom Chambers' photographs appeared under the influence of magical realism. The Mexican paintings, telling about the miracle as a commonplace, delighted the photographer. So he decided, in turn, to create something similar - but with the help of other artistic means than in painting.
For example, the image of a girl lying on sticks sticking out of the ground is a combination of three photographs. Heaven and Earth - from Yellowstone National Park, the model was originally laid on stools, and the branches also came from another photo. Together, these components demonstrate Tom Chambers' interest in the funeral rite of the Indians. As a result, the dead heroine appears before the sky, and the immortal nature is stronger than man.
Usually Tom Chambers' work on art photography begins with a pencil sketch. Then the original idea is divided into parts that have to be filmed separately, paying attention to the angles and lighting. The stage of photographing, sorting and selecting frames can take a whole month. Then the image is assembled piece by piece: earth, sky, person, animal, or something else.
