Name Alexey Batalov has long become a legend in Russian cinema. Possessing great talent and hard work, he not only starred in feature films, but also voiced cartoons, recorded radio plays, tried himself in directing … Alexei Batalov's star lit up in the late 1950s with the release of the military saga "The Cranes Are Flying". June 15, 2017 at the age of 88, the genius actor passed away, today we remember his iconic roles.
Alexei Batalov was an artistic person from childhood, and it could hardly be otherwise, since his parents worked at the Moscow Art Theater, and his stepfather Viktor Ardov, who raised the future actor from childhood, was engaged in writing. Alexei's young years passed surrounded by iconic personalities, their house before the war was often visited by great poets - Osip Mandelstam, Boris Pasternak, Anna Akhmatova.
Having matured, Alexey Batalov decided to follow in the footsteps of his mother and study acting at the Moscow Art Theater. After graduating, he played for several years in the theater of the Soviet Army, and after that he turned his attention to cinema. It is worth noting that the film debut took place during his school years, but the film "The Cranes Are Flying", which was released in 1957, brought all-Union fame. This film won the hearts of not only Soviet audiences, but also received the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. The film "The Cranes Are Flying" brought Batalov a resounding success, but almost became fatal for him: performing a trick, the actor fell from a sawn tree branch and was seriously injured. He was rushed to the hospital and underwent a complex operation.
Many films in which Alexei Batalov starred have become classics for a long time. This is the romantic film "My Dear Man", and the film adaptation of the classic story by Anton Chekhov "The Lady with the Dog", and the drama "The Star of Captivating Happiness", which tells about the Decembrists, and, of course, the movie "Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears", beloved by all Soviet audiences. …
Batalov's directorial portfolio includes three films - "The Overcoat", "The Gambler" and "Three Fat Men". By the way, in the film adaptation of the story by Yuri Olesha, Alexei Batalov played the main role, abandoning understudies and mastering the basic skills of walking on a tightrope for this.
The personal life of Alexei Batalov was successful, but on the way to family happiness he had to overcome many obstacles. His first marriage, concluded at the age of 16 with Irina Rotova, quickly disintegrated, relations with his daughter Nadezhda also did not work out (Alexey could not devote much time to the child, since he was completely immersed in work). The second marriage with the circus artist Gitana Leontenko turned out to be truly filled with love and tenderness, but in this marriage Alexei had a daughter, Maria, with a severe diagnosis of cerebral palsy. The actor made a lot of efforts so that Maria could live a full life, and she really began to engage in social activities, mastered screenwriting.
The cause of death of Alexei Batalov was a heart attack. He died in his sleep without regaining consciousness. Prior to that, the actor spent the last six months in the hospital, he was undergoing rehabilitation after a complex operation on the hip neck.
Alexey Batalov not only acted in films, but also voiced cartoons. His voice sounds in the familiar to all of us from childhood cartoon "Hedgehog in the Fog".
