Video: Girls in the Water: Soothing Pictures by Heather Horton

Heather Horton, an artist from Ontario, paints original paintings of girls swimming in the pool. The scenes look so pacifying that a special feeling of “unbearable lightness of being” arises, as if the viewer himself is lulled by the water surface. Swimming Portraits is a series of drawings that you can look at for a long time, studying the slightest glare on the water.
Wet reality often inspires artists to create amazing works of art. So Heather Horton pleased us with an original project: thanks to the play of light and shadow, it seems as if the paintings depict a continuous stream of water that glides over the body of swimmers. It is amazing how the artist manages to organize an ordinary two-dimensional static image in such a way.
Each painting by Heather Horton is just one of the episodes in the boundless water world. The artist explains that a special sense of isolation and alienation from the surrounding reality reigns in her works. She wants to interest the viewer, intrigue, what is there, beyond the boundaries of the canvas? Heather Horton loves to draw people in natural poses so that the models look completely natural, without posturing. Perhaps the cycle "Swimming Portraits" is a vivid example of this.
