The creation of match houses and entire palaces from this material is an old type of creativity that has existed for as long as they exist. matches … And the Japanese Hiromi Hirasaka in his works uses not the miniature wooden sticks themselves, but their incendiary heads.
Contemporary artists seem to have begun to pay more and more attention to materials such as matches. Moreover, they do not create various houses out of them, as was customary before, but use them in a completely new way in their work. Wolfgang Stiller, for example, creates their huge copy-sculptures, decorating with images of human faces. James D'Aquino draws on boxes. And Ali Cherri made a huge burning inscription out of thousands of matches.
One of such “innovators” can be attributed to the Japanese Hiromi Hirosaki, who is interested not in the matches themselves, but in their heads. After all, he turns these objects into various animals and men, drawing symbolic images of eyes, noses, mouths and other parts of the body on them.
Kokeshi Matches (as Hirosaki called his creations) - have a lot in common with images and dolls traditional for modern Japanese design (remember at least the characters Kaikai and Kiki, created by the artist Takashi Murakami). But before him, no one had guessed to place them on the incendiary heads of matches.
To make these images even more detailed and expressive, Hiromi Hirosaki also uses the box itself to create them. For example, in order to create a cute hare, the author had to finish drawing his ears already on cardboard - the format of a match head did not allow this to be done directly.
Hiromi Hirosaki even launched his original Kokeshi Matches. But there are only big doubts that some of the buyers are raising a hand to destroy this unusual beauty and use these objects for their intended purpose.
