Every year, a huge number of flower festivals take place in the world. But the holiday in the city of Zundert is probably the most famous and popular of them. And all thanks to the fact that the locals are very carefully preparing for it in order to please their fellow countrymen and guests of the festival with truly creative and unusual sculptures from dahlias.
Everyone knows that the main event of the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro is the passage of platforms from different samba schools along a special street filled with spectators. There is a similar ritual during the Bloemencorso festival. Several platforms created by the inhabitants of this city pass along the central avenue of Zundert. Moreover, each of them is a real masterpiece of visual art.
After all, the inhabitants of Zundert prepare for this holiday in advance. Already three months before the festival, they begin to prepare their platforms - they create frames for them, put them on wheels. But dahlias are added at the very last moment, a day or two before the event, since the prerequisites for participation in Bloemencorso are the use of fresh, not wilted flowers.
Traditionally, twelve teams take part in the parade - one platform from each historical district of the city of Zundert.
The Bloemencorso festival is becoming more and more popular every year. And in 2012 the city of Zundert received more than 50 thousand guests from all over the world. And this fact makes the festival the largest Flower Parade on the planet!
