Brad Downey creates funny installations right on city streets. In his works, he uses the most mundane elements of the urban landscape and plays with them wittily.
Brad was born in 1980 in America, but currently resides in Berlin. During his life, he managed to travel a lot, creating his works in various parts of the world. The main field for his activities has always been public places: buildings and squares in which people can freely interact. In my own words Brad Downey, its main goal was "to return the city to its inhabitants." By playing on such everyday objects as lamp posts, paving slabs, road signs, walls and roads in his works, the artist wanted the city residents to take a fresh look at their everyday environment.
Brad Downey believes that the artist's task is to question everything around him and not take anything for granted. And with his installations, he hopes to teach viewers to get rid of patterns and stereotypes of perception.
Despite the seriousness of the task, the methods of influencing the viewer Brad often chooses extremely frivolous. For example, once he made a banner with the image of a cloud measuring 15 by 23 meters and attached it to a light aircraft. A small cloud flew over the Atlanta sky for 6 hours. Or in one of his projects, he covered a piece of tiled masonry on the pavement with square pieces of sausage. Like many of his works, this installation did not last long in its original form, in this case - until the first street dog. That's why Brad Downey carefully documents all his activities, which often works against him when it comes to communicating with law enforcement officials.
Brad Downey far from alone expanding the boundaries of street art. Readers Kulturologia we are already familiar with many of his like-minded people who use urban objects in their works.
