Recently, visitors to the MMK Modern Art Museum in Frankfurt witnessed the immortal work of Dante Alighieri "The Divine Comedy". 50 artists from 20 African countries demonstrated their vision of Hell, Paradise, Purgatory within the walls of the museum. The exposition occupied 4200 square meters, which housed 23 works created especially for this event.
Taking into account the fundamental difference in cultural and religious traditions, the works of the authors also turned out to be radically opposite in style, form, content. Each artist saw in his own way both the afterlife and the deceased person in it. The exhibits were placed on three floors of the museum, depending on the direction. The exhibition was curated by Simon Njami.
The most shocking was the sculpture in which the author dumped a bunch of human heads into a makeshift boat. The meaning of this work lies in the fact that life is essentially worthless, and all people will end up buried in the cemetery, regardless of who they were during their lifetime and how much money they earned. A similar idea was pursued in his work by the sculptor Ray Villafain. Only he used not marble or steel as a material, but ordinary sand, as if emphasizing the transience of time.
