Alya (Alla) Esipovich is not just a photographer. This intelligent Petersburg woman is a real singer of life. Life without embellishment, without intrusive artificial interference - life as it is. No glossy substitution, no pathos and artificiality. And if the exposure, then, rather the soul than the body.

Esipovich's Star of the scene (or Episode Star) series is discouraging. Many may be confused by the uncompromising presentation of the material: the photographer does not spare the viewer, whose consciousness is often lulled by the multifaceted and ephemeral industry of fashion and beauty. You need to prepare for such an "anti-gloss". The series is inspired and dedicated to women. This time Esipovich decided to tell a sad story about the actresses of episodic roles: lonely, middle-aged, but beautiful in their own way, despite the deliberately poor interior and the absurdity of the outfits.

And this is a man's gaze. Here is what Alexander Borovsky, the head of the department of contemporary art at the Russian Museum, writes about Star of the scene: “… women are shown in an everyday environment, under the oppression of not at all professional problems. Often, as they say, on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Some, however, “play”: they recite something, try on outfits from the theatrical wardrobe. However, these are not auditions for the role. These are tests for life …”Perhaps, for someone, the series will leave a feeling of fracture, nagging melancholy, or even disgust … but Alexander Borovsky is sure that there is always hope that this is the main message of the photographer.

Esipovich was born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), graduated from the State University of Culture and Arts with a degree in cultural studies and art expertise. She studied at the Baltic Photo School, where she took an author's course with a recognized master of fashion photography, American Deborah Turbevill, and almost externally graduated from the reporter school course under the direction of Pavel Markin. Then there was a successful work in the St. Petersburg magazine "Sobaka.ru", where for several years Esipovich headed the department of photography.

Since 2003, Alla has been actively exhibiting in Russia and abroad and is a participant in more than sixty different exhibition projects. Esipovich's works are in the collections of many museums around the world (here are just a few: the State Russian Museum, the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve, the Zimmerli Art Museum (USA), the Chelsea Art Museum (USA)), as well as in private collections in Russia, Germany, the USA and other countries. Today Alya lives and works in St. Petersburg. The full album of her works, "That's it", was released this year.

Another project that gives hope is, of course, a series of photographs of Bob Carey, which he dedicated to his wife Linda, who is struggling with a terrible disease.
