Calgary Is a large city in the province of Alberta in Canada. Its climate is interesting because in cold winters there is often a warm, dry shinuk wind blowing from behind the Rocky Mountains, which can raise the air temperature to 15 degrees Celsius in just a few hours. True, this winter the townspeople are "warmed" not only by the shinuk, but also by … artificial sun … This hand-made installation appeared on Stephen Avenue at the initiative of the creative duo Caitlind Brown and Wayne Garrett.
From time to time, stars called the Sun are lit in different parts of our planet. Regular readers of the site Kulturologiya. RF will probably remember the installations on London's Trafalgar Square, on Federation Square in Melbourne, as well as under the industrial zone of our native Dnepropetrovsk. So over Calgary, a huge shimmering yellow ball appeared, resembling a beam of sunlight. By the way, the installation is named Solar Flarewhich literally means "solar flare".
The authors of the installation explain that by installing an artificial sun, they tried to extend the daylight hours during the long and cold nights of the year. The installation will delight the townspeople until February 1, thereby brightening up the gloomiest winter month. The street, illuminated by the "golden" light, looks warmer, and the mood of the city dwellers improves.
This giant sun has its own peculiarity. It is designed in such a way that the solar core is equipped with an electric motor, which is activated by two motion sensors located on either side of the avenue. With a high activity of motorists and pedestrians, the sensors set the installation in motion, and it begins to actively rotate and flicker.
By the way, "Solar Flare" is not the only joint project of Kaitlind Brown and Wayne Garrett. This wonderful art duo from Kadlgary has already managed to be remembered by our readers thanks to their interactive installation Cloud of 6,000 working and burned out bulbs.

Artificial sun in Trafalgar Square: installation with an advertising bias
On January 23, two suns rose over London. The man-made luminary rose over Trafalgar Square when there was still an hour before dawn. In addition, the artificial sun worked from an hour after sunset, surprising residents and guests of the British capital. The huge lamp-installation of the Greyworld art collective is not only an unusual event, but also a part of the Bright Mornings campaign, which advertises juices. In winter, everyone lacks sunshine and vitamins, so why not make people happy with both?
