Croatian architect Nikola Bašić, who became famous for the installation of a unique sea organ in Zadar, created another curious object - the installation "The Greeting to the Sun", which successfully blended into the landscape of the city embankment.
The installation consists of three hundred multilayer plates made of glass, under which solar panels are placed. Batteries absorb sunlight during the day, and give it back in the evening, which allows you to arrange a kind of light show to the delight of city residents and numerous tourists.
According to the architect's idea, the installation also has a purely practical application. Installed next to the marine organ (the author's previous installation), The Greeting to the Sun is designed to interact with an amazing musical instrument through original lighting effects. The glow with a constantly changing intensity adjusts to the playing of the instrument.
In addition, the installation demonstrates the impressive potential of renewable energy sources, which is an excellent argument for the widespread use of solar panels. It is estimated that the batteries used in Bašić's installation are sufficient to illuminate the entire embankment, which saves up to a third of the cost of electricity.
Artist and architect Nikola Basic was born in 1946 on the island of Murter in central Croatia. He studied at the gymnasium in Zadar, then graduated from the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning in Sarajevo. He currently lives and works in Zadar.
Argentine artist and architect Tomás Saraceno has created the impressive installation Poetic Cosmos of the Breath. The installation is a giant solar dome. The installation looked especially impressive in the rays of the rising sun.
