Spread across America, from Los Angeles and Hollywood to Miami and New York, The Standard luxury hotel chain is renowned for its love of turning things inside out, as illustrated by their upside-down logo. The hotel team also came up with imagination to create their latest corporate calendar.

The Standard Hotels 2014 calendar is a visual interpretation of some of the most memorable emails, reviews and comments hotels have received from guests over the past year, from the sweetest dog lover in the world to staff, to a desperate call for help: “I have lost the grass. Where is my grass?"

Each of the 12 scenes was played out by the hotel staff and, in some cases, by guests who happened to be near the set. Photos for Calendar 2014 were taken by the French artist Thomas Mailaender, whose funny projects comment on contemporary art with a fair amount of irony (once he made a huge, very similar to a real clam shell, left it lying on one of the beaches of Nice, and then called local reporters).

The idea for the calendar came from the Dutch creative agency KesselsKramer, which carried out the project from start to finish. “Our favorite month on the calendar is April. We took this photo because of a comment from a guest who lost his will to live after losing his wife and job. But after a break at The Standard, he felt “reborn,” says Kessels. - One morning while filming at the Hollywood branch, Thomas Maylander and I had breakfast at the hotel. Suddenly, a man entered the restaurant who looked exactly like Jesus in the picture. The hotel staff said that he is a regular visitor. This is how the spontaneous idea of Jesus walking on the waters of the hotel pool came about. We didn't even have to change anything, he came to the shooting right after breakfast at the hotel."
