Well, there are a lot of car riders in the world, and not much less of those who prefer to surf the sea waves. But those who manage to enjoy both riding and swimming at the same time are very few: after all, this requires amphibious vehicle … And yet every year there are enough amphibious drivers to organize races on the "off-road" of the sea surface. Right now, on August 20th, these unusual races are taking place in Switzerland.
Amphibious vehicles - cars that can swim as well as ride (for example, the record holder - Python WaterCar - develops 97 kilometers per hour on the water!). They are expensive and are produced in small editions, so there are few clubs of their owners.
But for the 26th year now, the drivers of amphibious vehicles have been gathering together, and not only to swim in a race, but also to show off their wheelbarrows in front of their comrades. Most of the 50 participants in this year's swim arrived (or sailed) in vintage cars: WWII military vehicles, jeeps and convertibles from the 50s and 60s …
So, the Briton Paul Foley drives the Amphicar - as the name implies, this is a German amphibious car, produced in an extremely small circulation, only 3828 copies, in the 1960s. The release of such an unusual and rather expensive car made the company bankrupt, but Amphicar became a cult among connoisseurs of floating cars. And another swimmer, Patrick Ameridzhh, sits behind the wheel of the colorful Dukw-21: these trucks were produced for the US Army during the war years, and received the nickname "ducks" - "ducks".
Owners amphibious vehicles every year they choose a new venue for their competitions, and this year the lot fell on the beautiful Swiss lake Neuchâtel, one of the most picturesque places in the world. Another reason for the meeting was the celebration of the millennium anniversary of the village of Saint-Blaise. The culminating parade under the walls of this village and the city of Neuchâtel is taking place right now, and next year, amphibious motorists will travel to Norway.
