It's not easy to become a jockey. And not only because the camel is a restive animal, but also because you need to be very light. Until recently, the problem of jockeys was solved solely by the fact that children had to participate in camel races. About 40,000 children were kidnapped in different countries, or sold by their own families, in order to end up on the back of a camel. And this despite the fact that camel racing is quite dangerous even for an adult.

However, civilized mankind puts pressure on the organizers of camel racing more and more, and so, in the early 2000s, at the races in the United Arab Emirates, young jockeys had to be replaced by riders over 16 years old. This immediately affected athletic performance. But in 2003, an unusual project was launched: a roboboy for camel racing! A Swiss company called K-team got down to business, and after a couple of years, the first batch of robots named Kamal straddled the humps.

Small robot riders for camel racing are quickly replacing living riders: they are very light. Such a jockey costs about 5-6 thousand dollars. During the competition, Kamal, obedient to the will of the remote operator, makes the camel turn, and even whips a humpbacked horse. And recently, UAE police found a gang of dealers selling converted robots that even knew how to accelerate camels with an electric shock. For cruelty to animals, they (dealers, not robots) were severely punished.

This is how technology distorts the most ancient traditions and familiar entertainment. Of course, everyone benefited from these robots: children are no longer stolen, and it became easier for camels to run. But if cars play sports for us, won't we become sedentary fat men, as in the cartoon about the adventures of the WALL-E robot?
