The most ancient interactive device created by man can be called a mirror - after all, it displayed an image of a person or objects in real time. And the artist Ivan Toth Depena in his Reflection installations used the real interactive mirrors.

From time immemorial, mirrors were made on the basis of some kind of reflective material, for example, silver, copper, bronze, etc. And only recently, products that were previously unthinkable in this business began to be used for their production. An example is Danny Rozin's wooden mirrors. Today we will tell you about Reflection digital mirror installations by Ivan Toth Depena.

The Reflection installation is located in the lobby of the Miami-Dade Center skyscraper, which houses the state structures of the Miami-Dade County of the US state of Florida. It consists of six large LED screens that operate in digital mirror mode. But they do not display an image of the surrounding space, but exclusively people approaching them or passing by. Moreover, the image is very conventional, extremely pixelated. If it were painting, it would be avant-garde.

Reflection digital mirrors change the shades of the images, depending on the time of day, lighting and the number of people at that moment inside the hall of the Miami-Dade Center.

The electronic brain of the Reflection installation keeps records of past visitors and reproduces their images when no one is around. This adds dynamism to the space, because even when the hall of the Miami-Dade Center is empty, it can seem from the outside that it is full of people.

Iván Thoth Depena’s installation Reflection is not the only piece of art located at the Miami-Dade Center. This skyscraper has its own art program, which is supported by money received from the paid parking of the said government building.
