In early October, Germany celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of East and West Germany. The main spectacle of the holiday was the show of giant puppets, which lasted for several days. The 15-meter giants walked the famous streets of Berlin for three days, telling their magical story.
Around two million people flooded the streets of Berlin to witness a performance organized by the French street theater Royal de Luxe and dubbed The Berlin Reunion. The show featured two huge puppets: Big Giant, a deep sea diver, and Little Giantess, his niece. According to the organizers of the show, the uncle and niece were separated by a wall built by "earth and sea monsters". The Big Giant has just returned from a long and difficult - but successful - expedition to destroy the wall, and is now walking along the streets of Berlin as a girl, rejoicing in a long-awaited meeting after many years of separation.
The puppet show lasted three days, from October 2nd to 4th, during which the story of the separation and subsequent family reunification unfolded. After walking around Berlin, the happy uncle and niece got into the boat and sailed away, accompanied by thousands of satisfied spectators.
In addition to direct eyewitnesses to the performance, about 80 million people watched the events of this unusual show on TV screens. As noted on the website dedicated to the celebration of the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the show of the giants allowed viewers to recall the events of twenty years ago and experience the joy and relief from the destruction of the barrier between the inhabitants of the same state.
