Art is a process of creation, not destruction. At least that's how we were taught in art history lessons. Although, if you think about it, the authors of the most famous works destroyed something. Lumps of marble and granite, rocks and trees from which sculptures were created … What can we say about graffiti on walls and fences, which many people still consider not decoration, but vandalism. I wonder how such grumblers will react to the unconventional works of Alexandre Farto, who performs under the creative pseudonym Vhils?

At the moment and until August 6, residents and guests of London have the opportunity to contemplate his installations. The installations, which, according to the author, symbolize the era when walls, fences and other surfaces became tools for people to communicate, through which they can express their thoughts and feelings in the hope of being heard.

The installation is called "ScratchingTheSurface" because Vhils created all the works by destroying, scratching, cutting and making numerous chips on old doors and pieces of whitewashed brick walls, advertising stands and pedestals, layer by layer pasted over with posters and other objects symbolizing the ordinary life of the ordinary cities.

So it turns out that by destroying, the author creates, but not something, but works of art. They are quite extraordinary, but that is why they are interesting.
