Video: A botanical garden instead of a museum. Exhibition of glass sculptures by Hans Godot Frabel

A trip to the museum, sadly enough, does not cause any enthusiasm among many: an enclosed space, dusty exhibits hidden behind glass … exhibition halls. The original solution to the problem was found in Richmond (Virginia): the role of the museum was played by the botanical garden, on the territory of which works of art were placed - glass works by Hans Godo Frabel. Now you can breathe fresh air and join the beauty!
Richmond Botanical Garden named after Lewis Ginter became an open-air museum for 10 whole months. The exhibition entitled "Glorious Glass in the Garden: The Art of Hans Godo Frabel" opened here on April 1, 2010 and will run until January 10, 2011. More than a hundred glass sculptures by Frabel are placed throughout the garden, including realistic works (bright frogs, beautiful orchids, lotuses and water lilies), as well as bizarre fruits of the author's imagination (elf figurines, masks and large-scale geometric shapes). Small sculptures invite the viewer to come closer and examine them more closely, large works can be seen from afar, but they are no less surprising.
Of course, given such an unusual "exhibition complex", it would be a mistake to assume that glass sculptures are simply placed along the paths of the garden - it would be too boring and predictable. On the contrary, each work fits perfectly into the environment: fragile elves lurked on tree branches, lizards crawled out on stones to bask in the sun, and weightless openwork vases float in the pool.
Hans Godot Frabel is a renowned German glassblower currently living and working in the United States. His works are in public and private collections in 80 countries around the world. The owners of the author's works are Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, Margaret Thatcher, Emperor of Japan, Oprah Winfrey, Elton John; the sculptor's works are kept in museums in London, Tokyo, Dresden, Valencia, New York, Washington.
