For residents, and especially for the city authorities of the Brazilian city of São Paulo, the work of an artist named Eduardo Kobra is not art at all, but marginal murals that disfigure walls and fences. He has already been detained three times for violating the city order. However, Eduardo is not discouraged, and still hopes that his paintings will soon be published in a separate catalog and will not be called vandalism.
The 33-year-old graffiti artist has a special reputation in the city. The São Paulo people know him as a self-styled artist who once paid R $ 10,000 to paint a thousand square meters of graffiti on Avenida 23 de Maio, depicting scenes from urban life. This event was timed to coincide with the 455th anniversary of Sao Paulo.
But in the circle of true connoisseurs of art, and especially of the street art style, Eduardo is extremely popular and loved. So, for 16 years of creativity, this unusual artist managed to create a whole gallery of wall paintings under the general name "Wall of Memories". The art project of the rebellious graffiti artist returns people to the past, to those good old days, which remained only on yellowed postcards and photographs in private collections, museums and newspapers.
The highlight of the work of Eduardo Kobra can be called the fact that in his paintings he skillfully combines scenes from the present with scenes from the distant past, and as a result, the general appearance of the paintings scares the scale and delights in realism. The artist calls the main goal of his project an attempt to transform a dull urban landscape with the help of art.
