She also did not get along with her colleague, the ballerina Tamara Karsavina. When, during one of the performances, the strap of the tutu broke and the ballerina's chest bared, Pavlova reacted so ironically to what had happened that she brought the embarrassed Tamara to tears.
Perhaps the origins of this behavior lay in the history of Anna herself. Indeed, she did not manage to enter the Russian Imperial Theater School, which Anna dreamed of so much, right away. When she was accepted, other ballerinas constantly teased the future stage star because of her small ankles and flexible legs.
But the girl, gritting her teeth, continued to study and eventually became the greatest ballerina of all time. According to legend, the ballerina's last words on her deathbed in 1931 were a request to prepare her a dying swan costume.
