Think real men don't cry? But no. Photographer Sam Taylor-Wood dispelled this stereotype by showing us strong, successful and famous men … and their tears.
For her series of works, "Crying Men" ("Crying Men"), Sam invited famous film actors and asked them to play another role - the role of a man who is crying. The photographer gave the actors complete freedom of action, asking only to portray tears and not insisting on any specific poses or scenes. As a result, each photo has its own personality and is not like the others.
"Some men started crying even before I finished setting up the camera," says the author of the project, "but for others it turned out to be a very difficult task." Sam admits that some of the heroes were unable to cry, as a result of which they had to resort to artificial tears. But the photographer does not reveal the secret of who is really crying in her pictures and who is not, inviting the viewer to solve this issue on their own.
We see tears of grief, despair and powerlessness, we seem to spy on the heroes of the photo project in very intimate moments of their lives … And although we all know that these tears - real or not - are just another successfully played role, the sight of crying men is still no one does not leave you indifferent.
The photographer's idea is simple: take strong men and show them from another, unknown and unusual side. Tim Roth, Gabriel Byrne, Laurence Fishburne, Woody Harrelson, Michael Gambon, Jude Law, Hayden Christensen, Ryan Gosling, Robert Downey Jr., Paul Newman, Ed Harris, Benicio del Toro, Willem Dafoe and other celebrities took part in the project. In total, Sam Taylor-Wood took pictures of 28 actors.
Sam Taylor-Wood was born in London in 1967. Known as a photographer and filmmaker.
