Francis Tabary is not only a talented sculptor, but also a bit of a magician. After all, it seems that the sculptures-illusions that he creates could have been born only with the help of magic!
People have been studying and depicting three-dimensional figures, which are optical illusions, for quite some time. One of the most famous works in this area is the Penrose Triangle, created by the Swedish artist Oskar Ruthersward. But at the same time, all these works exist only on paper: no one saw the possibilities for translating this idea into sculpture. Francis Tabari was the first to succeed.
It should be noted that there are 2 triangle sculptures installed in the world. One of them, in Australia, is open - that is, the full figure can only be seen from a certain point of view. Another, in Belgium, gives an optical illusion effect due to rotation. Francis Tabari's sculptures are free from these shortcomings: they are holistic and static. At the same time, the author's idea is visible to any person: you do not need to look for certain viewing angles or wait for the figure to turn to you the right side. Moreover, the natural play of light and shadow gives Tabari's sculptures volume and realism.
Francis Tabari was born in France in 1949. He had been interested in miracles and illusions since childhood and at the age of 15 he became a member of the magicians' club. Francis graduated as a pharmacist and opened his own pharmacy, while continuing to study magic. He even invented his own rope trick, for which he was awarded in 1991 in Lausanne, Switzerland. Therefore, it is not surprising that, like any magician, the author does not reveal the secrets of creating his incredible sculptures. "The play of light and shadow" is all that can be achieved from him. One can only guess that here it was not without tricks, magic and illusions.
