At first glance, Amy Bennett's works seem to be miniature models sculpted from plasticine, or photographs taken using the now popular tilt-shift technique. In fact, Amy is an artist, and her amazing works are paintings.
It all started with the fact that a few years ago, the girl actually began to create three-dimensional models of landscapes. When this work was completed, Amy took up a brush and began to transfer the miniature houses to the canvas, carefully tracing the smallest details. The artist covers the finished works with varnish and processes with sandpaper, finishing off a smooth and perfectly flat surface. Now in the collection of Amy Bennett three series of works: "At the lake" (On the lake), "Neighbors" (Neighbors) and "Monotypes" (Monotypes).
Amy Bennett's paintings are as small as the objects depicted on them. Cases when the large side of the image exceeds 50 cm are very rare. The artist explains this by the fact that in larger paintings people first of all pay attention to the clothes of the depicted characters, their hairstyles, facial expressions, etc. According to Amy, all these details distract attention from the perception of the picture as a whole. Therefore, in her small paintings, she draws miniature men, only indicating with a few brush strokes their clothes and a turn of the head. “This makes my characters more mysterious,” says the artist.
Amy says that she is inspired to create paintings by observing people - their communication, interaction, gestures … The artist says with a smile that there are a lot of people in New York, which means that there is no need to talk about lack of inspiration. Along with this, the girl reads books about art and biographies of various creative personalities.
Amy Bennett was born in 1977 in Portland, Maine, USA. He currently lives and works in New York. More paintings by the artist - on the site.
