Self-taught artist Justin Gaffrey creates unique canvases. His works can hardly be unequivocally attributed to any particular genre. This is a kind of improvisation, working with color, texture, space. Sculptures on canvas or volumetric painting - these are, perhaps, the most appropriate definitions for his unusual work.

Justin Geffrey worked as a chef in his own restaurant for half his life, but he realized once that his real vocation is not cooking meat and side dishes. Geoffrey felt an attraction to painting. So a professional culinary specialist became a non-professional artist, which he never regretted.

Of course, the work of a cook can contain creative elements: improvisation, mixing the colors of seasonal vegetables, spontaneity … However, Justin was bothered by the routine - he could not and did not want to work on order. So little by little, Justin began to paint. His first works can be safely attributed to naive art - a kind of folk art. However, then the self-proclaimed artist, as they say, got a taste. In the later works of Justin, the influence of impressionism is clearly visible. In particular, it is difficult to hide his fascination with Van Gogh. The numerous sunflowers depicted by Justin are a tribute to the work of the great master.

However, Geoffrey's work cannot be called exclusively imitative. Gradually, the artist came to his own style, moreover, he almost invented a new drawing technique! Keeping in mind the plot of the future picture, Justin liberally applies acrylic paints to the canvas. From the resulting color chaos, the master gradually begins to form a future picture. The most amazing thing is that the image turns out to be three-dimensional - this is exactly the effect the artist is trying to achieve.

Justin's textured, multidimensional work captivated not only the close acquaintances of the novice artist, who knew him only as a talented chef, but also people from the art world. His works cannot be unambiguously called paintings - they are a kind of sculptures on canvases inspired by the beauty of nature and the diversity of life. Now the artist has begun to use organic elements in his works - roots, branches and leaves. Earlier works by the artist can be seen here.
