Those who are not yet familiar with the roles of Nathan Fillion and have not fallen under the power of his charm can only be envied - they will get great pleasure from watching films and TV series with his participation. He manages to immediately win over the viewer, despite the fact that he is somehow not very similar to the hero in the classical sense. Moreover, the actor received the nickname "hit series hit" - it just so happened that many of the projects were closed after Fillion joined them - which, however, did not spoil the actor's career, but rather added a funny touch to his biography.
American Canadian Nathan Fillion
Nathan Fillion began "Killing TV Shows" after moving to the United States, he grew up in Canada. Nathan was born on March 27, 1971 in the city of Edmonton, to June (Cook) and Bob Fillion, who have worked as teachers all their lives. Their eldest son Jeff followed in their footsteps, but the youngest, having studied at the Catholic gymnasium of Albert College, and then at the University of Alberta, moved into actors.
In 1994, Nathan came to New York, where he became part of the cast of the soap opera One Life to Live, which had been on the screen for a quarter of a century. The debut was successful, Fillion received an Emmy nomination two years later in the Outstanding Young Actor category, and even though victory passed him by, this recognition was enough for a career takeoff. Nathan realized that he had found his calling. He moved to Los Angeles, where he continued to play in TV series and cameo roles in feature films, including starring in Steven Spielberg in Saving Private Ryan.
Nathan Fillion's finest hour came to him in 2002 after the start of filming in the television series "Firefly", which became, like other successful sagas about space, a cult. The actor himself speaks of the work on "Firefly" as "the most fun time." The role of Captain Malcolm Reynolds was the first of many later major roles in television series. In 2005, the sequel to the space western was filmed - the film "Mission Serenity".
That bizarre coincidence of project shutdowns after Nathan Fillion was hired worked with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the TV series Race, and Matchmaker. True, it is difficult to say that this would somehow negatively affect the career of the Canadian - he continued to receive invitations and eventually starred in several projects that brought him worldwide popularity.
My résumé is a long list of canceled TV shows
2009 saw the launch of Castle, starring Fillion as a bestselling writer with New York City Police Department officials involved in a murder investigation. The main female role went to the Canadian actress Stana Katic. Both viewers and critics recognized - from the very first episode between the characters - Rick Castle and Kate Beckett, there was a distinctly felt "chemistry", which, even if it fit into the concept of the series, still seemed to be an unnecessarily dynamic development of events. Fillion himself gallantly noted: “Stana can play“chemistry”even with a wet paper bag. So all I have to do is portray the package believably."
In fact, of course, the actor's merits in winning the audience's sympathy cannot be denied, and therefore it is easy to believe in the heroine's warm feelings for Rick Castle. "A tough guy who almost always makes mistakes" - this is how Fillion describes his character. It should be added that Castle disposes of himself thanks to the qualities that can be characterized by the actor himself - his courtesy combined with a tendency to almost childish mischief, his wonderful sense of humor, his awkwardness and at the same time the ability to control himself in difficult situations.
This series did not happen to "kill" - it was filmed until 2016, included eight seasons and received a large number of awards and nominations. True, the creators of "Castle" abandoned the ninth season after the departure of Stana Katic and Tamala Jones from the project - Fillion was at that time ready to continue shooting.
But the Canadian actor does not remain without work, he acts a lot and works a lot in voice acting - Fillion's voice can be heard in animated films based on comics and in computer video games: the fact is that he is a big fan of them. Nathan Fillion has a collection of comics at home, and he himself is a regular participant in Comic Con, festivals dedicated to this art form and elements of pop culture close to it.
"Walking Midlife Crisis" or Depression Cure
In September 2018, another television series was released, where the main role was written specifically for Fillion - "The Rookie". This is the story of a forty-year-old man named John Nolan, who, leaving behind twenty years of the construction business and a ruined marriage, decided to start a new life and, after training at the police academy, starts service. The Rookie is not a comedy, there is plenty of drama in the series. And yet, from the very first minutes, the hero manages to win the sympathy of the audience - the state in which he finds himself is so understandable and close. “Walking midlife crisis” - such a label gets the hero, and then it is no longer so important where the events of the series take place, Nolan, and with him Fillion, become the embodiment of a common, understandable to all striving for a dream and a vocation.
The creator of the series, Alexi Hawley, was at one time a producer and "Castle", with Fillion he had a long working relationship, and therefore the actor agreed to the role without even reading the script. But he was directly involved in the selection of the actors. Nathan Fillion has a unique role in its kind - a kind of his own guy on the board, charming and attractive, but at the same time great looking - at forty-eight he can boast of excellent physical shape.
Nathan Fillion is famous for her charm not only on the screen, but also in life. At the same time, by Hollywood standards, his life is quite modest. In any case, he was not noticed in any scandals, usual for Los Angeles movie stars. On the contrary, among the actor's friends there is no less than Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. And there is very little information about Fillion's personal life, but we know about his brainchild - a charitable project together with the writer P. J. Haarsma, the purpose of this undertaking was to increase the availability of books for children from low-income families.
In another life, as Nathan Fillion confesses, he would prefer to teach acting, continuing the family business of teaching.
A here - about handsome detectives from the TV series of the last century.
