The state will fully support any public initiatives related to the dismantling of monuments to Soviet leaders, this statement was made by Vyacheslav Kirilenko, Minister of Culture of Ukraine.
"We will encourage any public initiatives related to the cleaning of Ukraine from monuments to the leaders of the communist past," he said.
According to him, many monuments, busts and other monuments to odious figures of totalitarianism, which are not even included in the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine and are not objects of cultural heritage of local or national importance, and therefore do not fall under state protection.
According to Kirilenko, the ministry entrusted to him will initiate the withdrawal from the state register of monuments of Ukraine associated with the leaders of the communist era.
"The state will not oppose, but on the contrary, in every possible way contribute to any public initiatives that will fight for the cleansing of Ukraine from these relics of the totalitarian past," the head of the Ministry of Culture emphasized.
During the year, 504 monuments to V. I. Lenin were dismantled in Ukraine.
