On May 24, the premiere screening of the foreign cartoon "Prince Charming" was supposed to take place, but it was decided to postpone it for more than a month - to June 28. This decision was made by the Russian Ministry of Culture at the request of many copyright holders. This is not the first time that the department is going to shift the timing of showing foreign films so that they do not compete with domestic films. This time, they decided to protect the Russian cartoon with the name "Sadko" from serious competition in a similar way.
According to Olga Lyubimova, who holds the position of head of the cinema department at the Ministry of Culture, this time the distributors turned to the department with a request to somehow resolve the issue with the fact that the releases of a foreign cartoon with a high expectation rating and the Russian new cartoon coincided.
The Ministry of Culture at first wanted the producers to try to come to an agreement among themselves, but they did not manage to come to a consensus. Therefore, it was necessary to urgently convene a council responsible for issuing rental certificates. And it was by the decision of this council that it was recommended to issue a rental certificate for showing the cartoon "Prince Charming", created jointly by America and Canada, on June 28th.
On the territory of the Russian Federation, the distributor of the American-Canadian cartoon is the Volga company. She had the opportunity to independently name any other date for the premiere. Here are just representatives of this company said that they did not receive any invitations to an emergency meeting.
It is worth remembering that the head of the Ministry of Culture at the beginning of May met with journalists and said that the "Prince Charming" would not be given a rental certificate for May 24. Even then, the head of the department said that this picture would be a serious competitor for a Russian-made cartoon. And already at that time it was proposed to resolve the issue of on what date the release would be postponed, and if the distributor decides to refuse to discuss the date, then it will be appointed independently by specialists from the Ministry of Culture.
The Russian cartoon "Sadko" will tell the audience a story about a daring fellow who will have to fight an evil underwater witch for his love. The cartoon "Prince Charming" tells the story of three princesses who unexpectedly find out that they have become the brides of the same prince.
