On their wedding day, every bride dreams of looking like a real princess. In the wedding project photographer Amrit Grewal viewers can see models in the images of Disney heroines, but in an Indian manner.
The images of Disney beauties serve as a source of inspiration for many artists: for example, the collection Disney princess wedding dresses previously presented by designer Alfred Angelo, but Amrit Grewal spared no time and money to create an "Indian version" of Ariel, Rapunzel, Pocahontas and other charming cartoon heroines.
The project turned out to be expensive: for example, a dress for the Sleeping Beauty costs about $ 10,000, and Rapunzel's long braid is adorned with diamonds and luxurious jewelry.
The real highlight of the photo project is in the syncretism of traditional elements of Indian culture and those cultural codes that are already embedded in Disney stories. For example, the Indian dress Pocahontas is organically complemented by Indian-style embroidery, and the warlike Mulan's dress combines Asian and Indian features. Based on her own experience, Amrit Grewal says that it is not uncommon for brides in India to bring Disney elements to their wedding look. The photographs were published in South Asian Bride Magazine and aroused keen interest among readers.
