These photographs from the "Waiting for a baby" series are completely different from most of these photographs: it is not the mother of the child who is pregnant in them, but his … grandmother. 50-year-old Patti carried the child of her own son, as his wife, unfortunately, for health reasons, was physically unable to maintain any of her pregnancies.

At the age of 17, Kayla Jones, now 29, underwent surgery to remove a tumor. Her ovaries remained intact, so it was possible for Kyle to become pregnant, but she lost the ability to bear a child. That is why, when she and her husband decided to have a child, they realized that the only possible way out for them was to take advantage of surrogacy.

Since their wedding in 2012, Kayla's mother-in-law has been constantly joking that the best way to carry their child is not a stranger's woman, but relatives. Of course, at that time, the couple did not take these words seriously, but after they tried several times to use this service - and each time a potential surrogate mother's egg did not take root, Kayla thought about the words of her husband's mother.

“At first I thought that the doctors would say that I was crazy with such an idea,” Kayla recalls. “But then I looked for information and found out that there are many such cases when grandmothers are carrying their own grandchildren. We went to the clinic, and there, after numerous tests, it was confirmed that Patty could become our surrogate mother."

The first in vitro fertilization trial was in March 2017, but alas, it ended in failure. Before finally giving in to despair, the family decided to try again. And after 2 months they tried again. This time - finally - the egg has taken root.

“The day we found out that IVF was successful was probably one of the happiest days of my life (the happiest day was when my little son Cross was born!). Patty left the test jar in the morning before go to work, and my husband and I did a pregnancy test. I can’t even describe the feeling when I saw two pink stripes on the test. I was sure it wouldn’t work! And suddenly it was!"

The couple decided to surprise Patty. They did not admit to her that they had already taken the test and came to her work, and only then, in person, did they give her a positive pregnancy test. She immediately began to cry."

Cross Allen Jones was born seven months later. He was born on December 30th by caesarean section. "I am so shocked by the possibility of this miracle, - says Kayla. - It is clear that surrogacy is an ordeal, and for Patty it was especially serious, but when the child is in your hands, everything else fades into the background."

Grandma Patti herself describes this situation as follows: “Recently I had the privilege of doing something great: I was carrying my own grandson for my son and his wife. This is a real blessing not only for myself, but for my whole family, including my family. Kayla. I know that they both [son and his wife] deserve to have a child like no other. My heart just melts when I see how much they love Cross, how wonderful they are as parents."
