Felting felt is a rather complicated laborious process. However, American Kay Petal considers it to be the main passion of her life and, approaching business with a sense of humor, creates funny felt dolls - caricatures of celebrities.
Kay Petal became interested in felting in 2007. The woman was diagnosed with cancer, but, fortunately, she was able to cope with the terrible disease. However, on the way to recovery, Kay decided that she no longer wants to live the same life, but dreams of finding something to do that would become her real passion. When the woman got hold of Birgitta Krag Hansen's book on felt products, Kay Petal realized that now she knew what to do next.
Kei Petal makes various characters out of felt, including animal figurines. However, it is the celebrity dolls that are most popular. Among the sculptures by the author Marilyn Monroe, The Beatles, Elton John, Jackie Chan, Bono, Donald Trump and other celebrities. According to Kay Petal, it was her sense of humor that helped her to cope with the disease easier and cope with it, so she always relies on him in the creative process.
The author emphasizes that her sculptures are completely felted out of wool: they have no fillers or wire frames, they are not painted, their elements are not knitted or crocheted or sewn together. Kay Petal never studied felting specifically: her main teachers were books and lessons on the Internet. And now the woman herself is happy to share the secrets of her craft with others, releasing training DVDs.
