Roman Polansky and Sharon Tate were one of the brightest and most unusual couples in Hollywood. She is a beauty with an angelic face, he is a talented director who survived the horrors of war. They were full of hope and were waiting for the birth of their first child. But even in the worst nightmare, Roman and Sharon could not imagine what a cruel ending their story would have.
Roman Polanski
On August 18, 1933, in Paris, a late child named Raimund was born into the family of a Polish Jew Ryszard Leibling and his wife Buli Katz. Those close to him called him Romek or Roman. In 1935 the family moved to Poland. The war soon began. Romek visited the Krakow ghetto, the boy's mother and grandmother were killed in Mauthausen, his father and sister were able to survive in Auschwitz. His father threw Roman over the barbed fence of the ghetto as the men were herded to be sent to the camp.
The boy survived thanks to the family of Bukhala peasants, who sheltered him and hid him from the Germans. He had to graze cattle and work in the garden, and immediately after the liberation of Poland, he fled to Krakow, hoping to wait for his parents in the apartment where they lived.
The novel almost died of hunger, was saved thanks to Soviet soldiers who fed homeless boys. Father returned home not alone, but with his new wife, Wanda Polanski, who became a real guardian angel for Romek's father after he left the camp. The family began to bear the surname Polanski. It seemed that it would be much easier to survive with a Polish surname than with a Jewish surname.
Romek did not study well, his behavior and manners also did not shine, but showed a craving for the theater, which seemed to him more filled with life than the reality around him. He worked part-time on children's radio and played on the stage of the Youth Theater. After receiving secondary education, he went to film school in Lodz, began to act in films. Despite notable academic work, he never received his diploma, refusing to write a boring essay.
But the talent of the young filmmaker made him move forward. Polanski's first full-length film "Knife in the Water" was poorly received in Europe, but enthusiastically in America. This picture was nominated for an Oscar, but did not win a prestigious award, and Polanski used his chance to move to France. He managed to become disillusioned with the institution of the family after an unsuccessful marriage with Barbara Kwiatkowska and stopped trusting women.
American film companies began to show interest in him, and Filmways appointed him to direct The Ball of the Vampires.
Sharon Tate
On January 24, 1943, Sharon-Mary was born in the family of Colonel of military intelligence Paul Tate and his beautiful wife Doris. The baby surprised her with her beauty already in infancy, and at six months she became the winner of the first beauty contest - "Little Miss Texas". However, in the future, Paul Tate forbade his wife to participate in competitions with her daughter. He believed that his little ones (later two more girls were born in the family) should grow up as respectable housewives and please their husbands.
Sharon was very vulnerable and shy, and by the age of 16, her shyness took on a painful form. The young beauty was extremely insecure and even began to stutter. Doctors recommended the girl to raise her self-esteem and engage, for example, in the modeling business. Paul Tate was forced to come to terms, because it was about the health of his girl.
Sharon Tate was really looking forward to success. She was so beautiful that she seemed unreal. Her photos flashed on the covers. After the family moved to Italy, the girl made her debut in small movie roles.
After returning with her family to the United States, the girl already dreamed of becoming an actress. She was engaged to Jay Sabring, a renowned stylist and owner of prestigious salons. Sharon had a contract with Filmways and was offered to participate in the casting of The Vampire Ball.
Crazy romance
They met in London and quietly separated, exchanging phones. But Roman could not ignore such a beauty in any way and called her. A joint dinner followed, and Sharon saw in the novel a shy boy who is afraid of beautiful women. He was not sure of himself, despite the name and some recognition.
The first outburst of passion was supposed to cool the ardor of both, but in fact, the fire flared up hotter and hotter. Soon Sharon broke off her engagement to Jay and gradually moved to Roman. He had no intention of marrying her, the first experience of creating a family was enough for him. But he loved her, admired her, almost idolized her. Sharon accepted him unconditionally, promising not to limit his freedom in anything and not to break him. And he proposed to her.
On January 20, 1968, she became the wife of Roman Polanski. White dress, wedding, and many years of happiness ahead.
Pregnancy was not expected for the young couple, but still Sharon decided to give birth. It cannot be said that Roman settled down by getting married. The habit of a free life more than once brought him to other people's beds, but for some reason he was sure that Sharon would understand him. Faithful Sharon waited. She was generally, according to the testimony of friends, an angel. Kind, light, loving.
Drama at dawn
Less than a month was left before the baby was born. They rented a luxurious house, however, Roman was almost never at home: he was filming in London and was not in a hurry to go home. If only he could know that he was not destined to see his beloved Sharon alive.
On the night of August 8-9, 1969, bandits broke into their house, where, in addition to Sharon, friends Jay Sabring, Abigail Folger and Wojtek Frykowski were staying, and brutally dealt with everyone who was in the house. Even the most experienced policemen could not stand the spectacle in the house: literally everything was covered with blood. Sharon received multiple stab wounds.
Later it turned out: the bloody crime was committed without any motive by members of the Mason sect. Their "confessor" sent to kill someone and bring proof of his crime.
Roman Polanski admits that still looking at the beautiful landscapes he wonders if Sharon would like it or not …
Tragedies often cut off the seemingly endless happiness. Lost and incomparable
