Liverpool is one of the most famous cities in Great Britain. And, of course, not because of the shipyards, but because of the contribution to modern culture, the pearl of which is the Beatles. But how similar is the current city to the one it was 40 years ago? What has he lost and gained over the years? What's on black and white photos of Liverpool, but disappears completely on the colored ones? Answers to these questions English photographer Paul Trevor looking in his own old photographs: they keep the memory of England, which the British gradually lost - and about 70s, which gradually lost the whole world.
These pictures were taken in 1975: Then the young photographer Paul Trevor spent six months in the suburbs of Liverpool, in the slums, and all this time he transferred to film the daily life of the inhabitants of Everton and Toxteth. These slums are the flip side of the city's business card: the current famous football players, actors, politicians and great musicians grew up in them. By the way, somewhere in those parts was the childhood home of a Beatle drummer Ringo Starr, which was demolished a few years ago: it was just an old dirty shack, like most of the surrounding buildings.
However, in the then photos of Paul Trevor, it somehow does not strike the eye. For some reason, instead of a dull, depressed area, we see charming houses shrouded in a romantic haze, cheerful grimy kids, nice young people … It seems as if the legendary melodies of the 70s are playing in the background of these photos of Liverpool.
35 years have passed; Paul Trevor's stubble has turned into a beard, and the kids in the photos have grown. And it was then that the artist was covered with nostalgia, and he created a collection " Like you’ve never been away …"(" As if you hadn't disappeared anywhere … "). He again went to the same places - but children cannot be easily photographed in the era of computer games and rampant pedophilia, and indeed people have changed.
This is how Paul Trevor realized that these old photographs are unique documents of the past. His black and white photo of Liverpool find a huge response in the hearts of modern Englishmen, they are published in central magazines and published in albums, and the exposition attracts numerous visitors: those who left their childhood in the 70s will understand why.

But the streets and lanes, playgrounds and shops, and even the facades of houses and the furnishings of rooms remain practically unchanged

The past is a suitcase with a handle. "Memory Suitcases" - a nostalgic series of paintings by Yuval Yairi
Remember the common idea that the past is akin to a suitcase without a handle: it's hard to carry, but it's a pity to throw it away. The creative project of the Israeli artist Yuval Yairi completely contradicts this statement. For him, the past is a suitcase. With a handle. "Memory Suitcases" - this is how the artist called a series of nostalgic paintings made on … suitcases
