Nikolay Kravtsov is an architect from Lviv. This artist's love for buildings is felt literally in everything. He not only designs housing, and takes photographs of all kinds of buildings and interiors, but also creates amazing collages, such as these, based on combining the past and present of the city of Lviv.

He draws information to describe his works from the Internet, and he does it with great attention, interest and warmth.

“Here,” the author writes, “the photo was taken during the Second World War, after the battles for Lvov. Against the background is a house built in 1910 by order of the famous Lviv ophthalmologist Theodor Balaban. The city's savings bank has been located on the ground floor in this building from 1912 to the present day.

The building of the main post office was built in 1889 on the site of the monastery garden of the Greek Catholic Seminary. During the Ukrainian-Polish war of 1918-1919, the house was badly damaged. In 1922, during reconstruction, the shape of the roof was changed to the one we see now.

Once on the site of the monument to Mickiewicz there was a statue of the Virgin Mary. The monument to Mitskevich, according to the project, was supposed to stand in the place of a round flower bed on the same axis with the opera house. Thus, it was supposed to become the solemn completion of Svoboda Avenue from this side.

However, it is under that place that the Poltva collector passes, and when the foundations began to be laid over it, it collapsed, which is why it was decided to move the monument to the center of the then Mariinsky Square.

And in this place in 1909 a tram began to run. And that was the ŁJ route. Then the routes were marked with letters that designated the terminal stations: Łyczaków-Janowska (now Shevchenko Street)."

Most of the photos that deserve close attention, of course, remained behind the scenes of this review. But they can be found on the website of Nikolai Kravtsov, as well as watch the video and enjoy the old and new views of the city of Lviv.

For the sake of fairness, I would like to say that collages based on photographs of the present and the past are a fertile topic not only for the author of the project "Moments from the Past Lvov (Moments from Lviv's Past)", but also for many other contemporary photographers, such as, for example, Sergey Larenkov and Seth Taras.
