The national Norwegian costume - bunad - is striking in its beauty and is very popular in Norway today. Bunads are worn on holidays by both ordinary citizens and members of the royal family. National costumes are passed down from generation to generation, and the cost of a bunad in a complete set can be equal to the cost of a new car.

The traditional wedding headdress for Norwegian brides looked like a crown. Depending on the financial situation of the family, a headdress was made from various materials - from straw to gold and silver.
Wedding crowns were decorated with pendants of various shapes, which emitted a gentle ringing when walking. It was believed that these sounds drive away dark spirits from the bride.
According to tradition, the bride at her own wedding had to dance until the crown fell from her head.
The second life of the bunads began in the 1920s. Then, after a long break, the Norwegians began to wear them again for holidays and weddings. Klara Semb and Hulda Garborg were at the origin of the movement to bring back the Bunads. They restored national Norwegian costumes from watercolor sketches and engravings.
Today the bunad has become one of the symbols of Norway. 7 out of 10 Norwegian women have a wardrobe.
