The founder of Cubism and the most expensive artist in the world, Pablo Picasso, created about 20,000 works in his life. Incredible creative fertility, irrepressible energy and a desire to experiment made Picasso an icon of the artistic world of the twentieth century. LIFE photographer Guyon Mili visited the studio and home of the great artist, taking photographs of both Picasso himself and everything that surrounded him. It is these pictures that we present to viewers in our review.
In 1968, LIFE magazine was published, completely dedicated to Pablo Picasso (Pablo Picasso). Magazine editor George Hunt wrote about his impression of the artist: “Seeing Picasso for the first time is first of all seeing his extraordinary brown eyes, striking in their depth. They are surprisingly large for his face. When Guyon Miles (Gjon Mili), an incredibly talented photographer for LIFE magazine, who combined light, technique and photography in his work, came to Pablo Picasso in the summer of 1949, it was clear that two such bright personalities could not just sit and chat. Miles persuaded his boyfriend to experiment with light for 15 minutes. Picasso was so inspired in the process of work that as a result, 30 drawings were born with light in the air - a centaur, there was, a Greek profile, Picasso's signature and others, some of which can be seen in this review.
This series of photographs, known as Picasso's "light drawings", was taken with a small light bulb in a dark room. The drawing that disappeared while drawing remained on the film, which fascinated Picasso. Many of the images in this series were shown in the early 1950s at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
